The first quarter ends tomorrow; it was a quick thrill of a ride! The Elementary Art students have been very, very busy flexing their creative muscles, building their fine motor skills, and sharpening their artist eyes. My art room's foundation is built on community and kindness. Students are encouraged to communicate to one another and to collaborate on a variety of projects. Students share their work with their classmates throughout projects, as well as through closings to projects. Students that would like to show their work over the document camera, as well as describe to other students what they are seeing, are able to do so; this is a voluntary act. The "Visiting Artist" student answers questions and responds to comments from the observing students. I strive for my students to feel very comfortable and safe; they are unable to grow and learn without first feeling these things. While students are working and talking with their table partners, if I happen to overhear students speaking kindly to one another--sometimes shown through compliments of art projects or sharing art materials--- students are able to sign the "Kindness Poster" and to color in a section. This poster is an ongoing activity that will continue throughout the year. Once the current poster is all finished being colored and signed, there will be a brand new Kindness Poster. The Masterpiece WallThe Masterpiece Wall has been created so that students are able to share their work from home with the entire school. It has been a hit so far this year! Students enjoy bringing their work and seeing it hung for all to see! I have gone through 2 rotations of artwork. The current Masterpiece Wall is shown here. *Individual name and class labels have been removed for photos shown here. Sharing Family Pictures2nd Grade 'Visiting Artists' are shown below, pointing out details in their Family Pictures! My name is Ms. Kowalczyk or Ms. K. I enjoy making art, being outside, and spending time with friends and family! Some of my favorite artists are Georgia O'Keeffe, Henri Matisse, and Chuck Close.
I’m very happy and excited to start the school year and to start a great, new adventure at Jackson Elementary School. This website will show students' artwork, describe fun art activities and discuss the importance of art. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask in person or contact me through email: [email protected]. |
